Epoxy Resin, The Distinctiveness of Image and Flooring: The Secret to How to Get Shiny Floors

The shiny floors are one of the most significant aspects of a property. The floors are one of the first things customers notice when they walk into your property. Clean, well-kept shiny floors make an excellent first impression and help to build your reputation. However, if your floors aren’t in good shape, they’ll reflect poorly on your company. Given the importance of floor aesthetics to your building’s worth, you’ll need more than just an “eyeball test” to see if your floor shines as it should.

If you have a concrete floor, it should be polished and regularly maintained to last for many years. It’s not enough to clean your shiny floors with a standard cleaner because this will only remove dirt and grime from the surface. It may be essential to polish deeper stains using acid etching or other chemicals to remove them entirely. In recent years, distinctness of image (DOI) has become the gold standard for evaluating floor appearance, replacing or supplementing previous measures like gloss and haze. Visitors may choose the flooring that reflects a high level of image and clarity.” This article will talk about how to assess image distinction and what measures you should take to attain DOI (Distinctiveness of Image).

What is DOI?

DOI measures image clarity, or how crisply and sharply pictures are reflected by a surface. High distinctness of image means you can see the contour of an overhead light bulb or read the wording on a reflected sign. A fuzzy image exemplifies low DOI.

The American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) has set industry standards for measuring DOI using a DOI meter scale of 0 to 100, with 100 signifying perfect image clarity or distinctness.

The Classic Way Floor Appearance is Measured

GLOSS

The capacity of a surface to reflect light, giving it a polished, shiny aspect, is referred to as gloss. It’s calculated by measuring the amount of light reflected off a surface using a gloss meter over a narrow-angle range, centered at an equal but opposite angle.

  • A clean image will be reflected in the reflected light is centered at the center of the angle range.
  • Reflected images will appear hazy if the light is distributed uniformly across the angle range.
  • This means that two floors with the same gloss rating can have drastically different appearances.

RSPEC

The peak specular reflectance (RSpec) of a surface is the gloss value at its highest point. The peak gloss reading is the gloss measured exclusively at the specular angle. The sharp and clear reflection on a perfectly smooth surface, such as a mirror, is known as specular gloss.

  • Naturally, if a surface is not smooth, it scatters the light beam’s reflection and broadens the specular gloss.
  • Because RSpec only provides the peak gloss value, it is limited in measuring the authentic look.
  • The dispersion of light around the specular angle is not taken into account.

HAZE

The milky halo or “bloom” on the floor next to the mirrored picture is his. When a bright light source is placed on a surface, the reflection image blooms and generates a hazy halo, the surface is said to be high haze. For highly polished surfaces, haze is a significant metric. Higher haze values indicate poor quality and are produced by dirt or oil contamination, which creates a rough surface. The reflection of light or image is scattered if the surface or coating is not perfectly smooth, expanding the specular gloss.

Professional floor cleaners aim for a low haze value, defined by a deep reflection and a high reflected contrast. As a result, haze is a prominent indicator of maintenance quality. While haze impacts surface clarity and reflection, it is only one aspect of surface quality and does not reflect the floor’s overall appearance.

So How do We Achieve High DOI

Many individuals believe that keeping the floor clean is all that is required to retain a professional image. However, just maintaining alone will not be enough

While cleanliness is essential, the general condition of your floor is crucial in generating a high DOI and achieving that sought wow effect from your visitors. Your floor will not shine if it is full of scratches and dings, no matter how clean it is.

The goods included in a maintenance system are crucial when making a decision. It doesn’t have to be tough to achieve a high DOI. Most protection and polishing products are designed to provide simply a glossy appearance, but this is rapidly changing. There are an increasing variety of mainly built floor care systems on the market today that include items like abrasives, finishes, and burnishing pads that are expressly designed to boost DOI.

Many businesses now understand the importance of having DOI-friendly solutions that operate in tandem with the rest of the maintenance system to improve the gloss of a floor and drastically raise DOI.

It is critical for shiny floors to be well-maintained and have a shiny surface, as facility guests and inhabitants are paying more attention than ever to a building’s cleanliness—and often basing their assessment on appearance. By safeguarding your flooring and increasing your image, you can stay ahead of the developing DOI trend. Customers will take notice. This is why you should leave it to professionals like Pro Concrete.
